SWAIN GROUP SECURES LOGISTICS CONTRACT WITH GLOBAL STONE

National distribution business Swain Group have recently been awarded a contract to provide a port centric storage and distribution solution for premium natural stone supplier, Global Stone.

The contract will see Swain dedicating two acres of their existing storage site, located at the heart of the DP World London Gateway facility, to the management of Global Stone’s inbound containers from both the London Gateway and other UK ports.

It will also include stock control of over 10,000 crates and packs, as well as the routing and delivery of a national distribution solution via the Swain Group’s general haulage fleet and associated divisions.

Global Stone is an industry-leading supplier of premium natural stone, porcelain paving and accessories, supplying a broad range of customers including a network of independent builders’ merchants, landscape centres and garden centres.

Until recently, their stock only entered the UK from the Port of Felixstowe and was held at one site for nationwide distribution. However, following the company’s recent growth and acquisition of Digby Stone, coupled with increased demand and a need to de-risk its reliance on a single port, led Global Stone to seek an additional logistics solution.

The Swain Group’s London Gateway facility was chosen for its proximity to London, as well as its cutting-edge systems and the space for Global Stone to scale up as stock needs to increase.

James Wyatt Group Operations Director of the Swain Group said: “This contract award punctuates an important 12 months for The Swain Group. Despite the obvious challenges of COVID, 2020 was a buoyant period for us with significant contracts confirmed in a number of different sectors.

“We are truly delighted that Global Stone have chosen the Swain Group to become such an important part of their UK supply chain, and very much look forward to supporting their logistics operations.”
